Garage Band update

Sian and Yasmin worked on the garage band soundtrack for our opening scene now that most of the editing is done to the clip itself last lesson.
We wanted to music to fit in perfectly with the video clip because otherwise we felt that it will really enhance the film a lot and make it seem more realistic and exciting. Music has a knock-on effect on the viewers emotions so we tried to interpret this into our work and have added a mass of variety. We decided we didn't want the same music running through the entire clip as it may get tedious and quite boring for the viewer so from this we initially determined the mood of each of the clips after doing this we were able to experiment freely till we found a mixture of sounds that worked well together and more importantly enchanced the film clip.
We have almost finished our garage band sound track now and have listened to it whilst our opening scene was playing and it had a suprising brilliant effect because of the tension and emotions it brought with it.
Once the opening credits have been added to our filming we can then add the garage band sound track onto this and convert it into a quicktime video clip. After this our editing will be finished and completed.

Credits

My group has had a lot of discusion about the credits as they play a vital key in the opening scene of a film. We looked at other childrens films for inspiration, Shrek had very interesting and exciting opening credits as they used the scene and the props to create the credits themselves in the animation which is more exciting for the viewers and draws instant attention to them when normally they are often ignored by the viewer.
I feel that we can use this as inspiration and interact with the credits more, in the scene when Sian and Yasmin, the two secret agents/superheros are introduced with the initial running scene as they run past the camera can freeze an action shot of them individually and have the credits animated rolling of the person; this will also help to introduce the characters.
The credits can be bold and exciting, maybe colour could be used as well to draw attention but because of the setting of the mainly green background it may be easier to use white font as this will make the credits more bold and easier to read for the viewer. This will make it mroe exciting than the credits just rolling over the screen in a list which would most probably be ignored by the viewer and disregarded. Furthermore the fonts should be very bold and more out of the ordinary and a bit more quirky.
After doing all of which has been mentioned it will add more of a finish to our opening scene and make it look a lot more professional.

My Mood Board

Above is a mood board i have created to show the theme of my groups opening to the childrens film, our opening is based on the "goodie" "badie" theme which runs in a lot of childrens films as a theme. It can work along side other genres such as action, science fiction, comedy, family film etc. Not only does it make the film more interesting and exciting but it teaches children about morals and what is right and wrong. My mood board shows images from big childrens hits such as Shrek, Batman and The Incredible Mr Fox which all inspired us to use this theme.

Update on project

Last week and before half term, my group has been continuing working on our opening to a children's film. However, before halfterm we couldn't continue filing due to the change in weather as it was raining therefore we had to start editing that day and finish the filming on our next lesson. During that period, we started cutting and editing our project to get the best bits and putting them together.
After halfterm, we finished our filming on the first lesson back and then continued editing all of it. Sian, Tania and I finished cutting it all as Yasmin was on another school trip.
Last lesson, Sian and Yasmin worked on garage band for our background music while Tania and Briarly worked on the fades we put inbetween our clips to make it run smoothly.
Tania and Briarly finished adding effects and Sian and Yasmin have the last few seconds to put garage band on.
Next lesson we need to finish garage band and add the credits and we will be finished.

On Thursday 22nd of October, It was our second day of filming, and Adam turned up this time to play his role as a victim being bullied. Adam was dressed as a 'stereotypical geek', wearing a bow tie, a shirt tucked into his very tight combats, glasses, and very long socks with the trousers tucked in.
We decided to set the second shot down a long corridor to show that we were in a college. And in this scene, Adam gets tripped up by the bully and Adam falls to the floor.
Then, we filmed Adam outside eating on his own, and the audience watching is meant to feel sorry for Adam. There is a close up of his face to show his emotions. Then Aidan comes along and bullies him while Adam is eating.
We then filmed outside, in front of the school and Aidan throws a note to Adam with a very disheartening message, we then get another close up of Adams face to see his reaction.
We decided to stop filming there as we where running out of time and we had alot more time to film the rest of the scenes and upload our children's film.

Mood Board.

This is my moodboard, i used these pictures to show how these characters work as a goup to defeat evil, like our story. i included goodies and baddies to show the difference , which is very similar to our characters. Also i used these images to portray our genre of the film , which is manily action with a bit of comedy and most of these films tend to show that.

Ideas On the credits

Font Style :

Our opening scene is all about comedy and action , and its for young children so i think our credits should be very bold and easy to read. the credits should appear when there is a close up on each of the characters faces, it should be an overlay on the freeeze of their face. I think it should wipe in from left to right and overlay the picture. The colours i think should represent the type of character, for example the goodies should have white which symbolises pure and innocence and the baddie should have red , as red symbolises an angry, mean character. The font should be something easy to read and should be very bold so it can attract the viewers attention, also it should be in capitals so its more obvious.

My idea on credits.

I think for our credits in our opening to a children's film project, we should name the characters when they have a close up shot of them. For example, when Sian and Yasmin are running towards the camera and then run to the side of it we should freeze it at their faces and the credit should come up at the side of them.
When looking at the font, i think it should be simple but bold so it's easy and straight-forward to read. I think it should be in capital as it comes across as more powerful which relates to the goodies and baddies.
The colour choice should be fairly bright so it shows up well against the background. For the goodies i think the colour could be in yellow as it as a colour which is happy, bright and shows innocence. For the baddie i think the colour would be good in red because it symbolises the character being evil and dangerous.
For how the credits appear on the film, i think it would be a good idea if it slides on from right to left as the character the credit will be naming will be on the other side. The credits should be fairly quick because the characters will be frozen so it wouldn't be good for it to freeze for too long as it needs to continue.

This is my mood board which has pictures that relate to the theme of Children's action film and goody's and baddy's which is our focus in our project.
I put pictures of the film Storm breaker and Agent cody banks as they are examples of popular children's film which the genre is action.
I used superman because he has a well known superman logo/symbol. we have used logo's for the agents who are goodys in our project which is a known feature in a superhero.
i used the power rangers and the powerpuff girls because they show heroes with close relationships which is a part of our story of the goodys being close friends who help eachother. Also, they have matching outfits which is commonly used in films to show they are a team.
i put pictures of ursula (from the little mermaid) and cruella deville (from 101 dalmations) as examples of villains/evil characters. They both have an evil look to them that is unattractive.
i got a picture of batman and robin as they are a well-known twosome who have a good friendship and good teamwork.

My Moodboard...

Here are some pictures of the moodboard I made. I focused my moodboard on the genre of action and having a goodie and a baddie in film.

My Ideas Of The Font We Could Use...

Our opening to our film, is full of action and comedy so our font and style of our writing has to portray that. I think the writing for the tilte should be bold and should be easy for the audience to see. I think the writing should be black and gold because Bean and Bell's masks and t-shirt logos are black and gold. I think the title should appear from nowhere and then fade away as the action begins. As the action is happening I think we should have the actress' name appear and what role they are playing, ie " Yasmin Bean as Agent Bean". I think this should also be in black and gold to tie in with the theme of the agents. Another thing that we are going to use is a rewind sign and an action replay sign. As one section of our opening is quite comical we want to add to that element by adding a rewind section and a slow motion section. Finally when the baddie comes into the sequence I think the writing of her name should be red and black because that then ties in with her colour theme. Overall I think there should be a theme that runs thoughout the opening sequence and keeps appearing thoughout the whole film.

Children's film opening sequence project began today.

Today, our group started filming our opening to a children's film. Yasmin, Sian and Tania did all the acting while Briarly did the camera filming and directing. Today, we managed to film about just over half of the story but still have the rest to do during the other lessons we have.

We mainly followed the story boards that Briarly and Tania drew out but we had to make a few changes and adjustments because of some things we thought would be better and other things we had to change because it would be the only way for it to work. For example, we had to change character and camera postioning because of sunlight which got infront of the camera and some aspects we decided to change because of the size and shape of the location we used.

Overall, everything is going well and to plan. We need to now wait to finish the filming and do all the editing to get the full result of our Children's film opening sequence.

This is our group!!! Look how lovely we are!!!!!

Making props and costumes.

This is Yasmin and Sian creating their costumes for the project. They made masks and a t-shirt logo for their characters so the audience can define who the goodies are.

Storyboards and Timeline

These are our story boards Briarly and Tania drew of our opening sequence to our children's film.
It has information about what type of shot each part will have such as shot reverse shot and close-ups, etc.
It also has a little description of what the shot will contain and the music as well.

This is a timeline which Briarly and Tania did that shows the timing of each shot and how they are going to run into the two minutes.

Analysis Of Sound in Stormbreaker...

For my part of this task I had to analyse the sound of the opeing to Stormbreaker.
It starts off the teacher talking in a lesson and you can hear his footsteps as he is wandering around. Then Alex starts to speak. This is all diegetic sound. As Alex is explaining his family, the screen changes and it shows his uncle. Alex's voice then becomes a voice over while he's describing his family. You can also hear the Nanny speak but it is only quite so it doesn't distract you from the voice over. Then there is a big explosion which is loud and grabs the audiences attention because something exciting is happening. Through out the rest of the scene there are bike enegine and car noises to add more effect and there is also wheels screeching. The voice over is still talking while this is going on and a soundtrack also comes in aswell. The soundtrack is very upbeat, has a fast pace and has quite a shocking beat through out. As the car chase goes on the beach, you can hear the voice of Punch and Judy that the elderly couple are watching. Also you can hear seagulls and at the end of the chase you can hear lots of gunshots that have been fired at the car. Then the scene goes back to the classroom and a boy yawns and then the school bell goes.

Overall the sound of this opening is quite dramatic and there's a lot going on. The opening is quite upbeat, fast and sets the audience up for the rest of the film.

Character Positioning :

The film i looked at was called Stormbreaker. I had to focus on the character position for the opening 3 minutes of the film. Firstly the characters were all sitting around together at some sort of assembly or discussion. I could see their body and faces clearly. then the camera focused on the main character "alex" , and he was standing closely to the teacher while he was telling his story. afterwards when he describes his uncle the characters were all on bikes , riding around fastly, they were positioned everywhere as they were moving around a lot form side to side , just on their bikes and their faces were not exposed. as it was a very fast action clip the characters were moving very fast , under objects , running away and everything.

Stormbreaker.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-KzNp6k5EM

- we only looked at the first 3 mintutes of it.

For our Children's film opening project, we are going to create our own children's film which will be a children's action film. we had a look at the opening to Stormbreaker which is a suitable example for the genre we are looking for and trying to re-create.

Briarly looked in more detail of the camera angles and movements of Stormbreaker at the opening:

At the beginning of Stormbreaker, it uses a pan shot which goes from left to right across the classroom they are in. This shows us the setting of where they are and the atmosphere that comes across from the very beginning. This is a useful way of starting a film because it starts off calm and sets the scene as you can tell by the slightly relaxed vibe it is soon going to become more upbeat.
There is a shot reverse shot used whilst two people are talking as it is a straight-forward way of showing two people having a conversation and the audience stay engaged with what the characters are saying because of the quick camera movements. The use of shot reverse shot in this film is to get information needed for the story line to work quickly so the film can focus on the action. Through the whole opening there isn't much dialogue because it jumps almost immediately into action apart from when the beginning is telling the audience the background story. this would be a good idea in our children's film as compacting the storyline shorter will make the opening less boring so there is no time wasted for the action which is more entertaining.
Tracking shot are used to follow peoples actions and allows the audience to follow the character. It indicates in this film what sort of body language the character is doing which therefore allows the audience to understand the mood in the film and how the character is feeling. Tracking shots would be useful in our opening sequence because they are a good way of seeing how characters are acting and approaching people/objects.
over-the-shoulder shot has been used in Stormbreaker to see the action in a way of seeing it in the characters point of view. this could be used in our sequence to show what the character is looking at and let the audience understand the situation.

Garageband Ideas For Childrens Film Opening...

As our children's film has an action genre we think we the film should have a theme tune. We have taken inspiration from the rocky theme tune, mission impossible theme tune and "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor. All these songs are upbeat and have a fast pace. All of these songs have an adrenaline rush which get the characters and the audience going. We will probably use drums, electric guitars and bass instruments. The music will have quite a lot of pump and have a constant beat. The music will be quieter as the characters are speaking and will be louder while the action is happening.

Practise story board.

For our practise story board we watched the opening to 'Back to the future.'
Sian looked at the music and sound effects.
Tania looked at the character positioning.
Briarly and Yasmin looked at the camera angles.

Then we made a story board based on the notes we made putting all our information together to create six mise-en-scenes.
We wrote down the shot type by each picture and sound which was with the shot.

This will help us understand and create a story board for when we make our own children's film opening sequence as we have looked at the ideas which are needed to plan a story board well.

Idea and Planning For Our Children's Film...

For our children's film we have decided to choose the genre of action. Our storyline will have three girls, two of which are the good characters and the other is a bad character.
The two good characters are Agent Bell and Agent Bean who are out on their mission to capture Dr S.K.U.L.L who is the evil woman who is trying to shut down all the toy shops. This is Bell and Bean's first mission set by the FBI, the foolish twosome trip and blunder their though their mission due to the lack of experience they share.

Sian Bell will be playing Agent Bell and Yasmin bean will be playing Agent Bean. The evil Dr S.K.U.L.L will be played by Briarly Jeffrey-Mann and Tania Miah will be the camera woman. We will be filming our opening sequence on the school field as it is very large and has lots of places to record live action.

Costumes:
Agent Bell & Bean: all black with a bright yellow 'B'
Dr S.K.U.L.L: mask, all black and a bin bag

Props:

Preliminary Task

Tuesday, 29 September 2009

Prelimary Task...

The prelimary task is set so we can complete and pass a continuity task. This task is set to show our skills behind the camera and showing what different shots we can use.

In this task we have decided to use two characters in an office and one has interesting news to tell the other.

It starts off with Yasmin walking down the corridor and seeing two people in the stationary cupboard getting up to mischief. Yasmin is really shocked and quicky goes to tell her friend who is in the office. Sian is sitting in the office and Yasmin rushes in to tell her. Yasmin tells Sian that she has seen Sally and Pierre together in the stationary cupboard. Sian asks what Pierre looks like in shock and Yasmin describes him and Sian realises that Pierre is suppose to be her boyfriend. Yasmin has realised that she has stirred things up and feels a little guilty.

SCRIPT:
Yasmin: You'll never guess what??
Sian: Why? Whats happened??
Yasmin: I just saw Sally going in the stationary cupboard with Pierre.
Sian: What Pierre was it??
Yasmin: You know, Pierre - brown hair, 6ft 3, muscular with dark eyes.
Sian: What? He's suppose to be with me!!
Yasmin: (bites her lip) Opps.

LOCATION:
We will be filming our scene in the C block of Long Road and we will use whatever classroom is free.

WHO"S DOING WHAT??
Yasmin is character 1 and Sian is character 2. Tania and Briarly will be behind the cameras, filming the scene.
